Introducing Suntra Modern Recovery
Introducing Suntra Modern Recovery

With this blog post I’m excited to announce the “official” launch of our new venture, Suntra Modern Recovery (www.hellonsuntra.com), a personalized recovery solution for people dealing with substance use disorders featuring expert medical doctors, home-based and virtual visits, and research-proven recovery medications.

The United States is in the midst of a large and long-running drug epidemic. About 10% of the population struggles with a substance use disorder, only 10% are receiving treatment. The dominant model for addiction treatment, 28-day residential treatment (i.e. “going to rehab”), doesn’t work for many people. Two-thirds of people who go to residential treatment will require more treatment in the future, and only 20% of people who are discharged from residential treatment are sober 5 years later.

The 28-day residential treatment approach is also problematic due to very high costs (as much as $40,000 per treatment episode, often coming completely out of pocket), required time away from work and family, and the stigma associated with going to treatment. People need a solution that allows them to receive care in a more convenient and discrete setting, that’s more in the context of their real lives, and allows them to maintain their work and family responsibilities.

Suntra Modern Recovery is filling a large gap in the treatment of addiction, making treatment more convenient and accessible, and lower cost. At Suntra we know that so many people are struggling and we believe that many people are being underserved in the space between, “I think I have a problem” and a referral into 28-day residential treatment.

Suntra offers people with substance use disorders a flexible and adaptable recovery solution that is tailored to the individual needs of each patient, recognizing that every patient has a different story. We offer a high touch service that delivers everything from medically supervised withdrawal (aka “detox”), to medication management with Suboxone and Vivitrol, to ongoing coaching and support.

At the end of the day our goal is not only to help the many people who have substance use disorders, but we also want to fundamentally rethink what it means to deliver healthcare to the patient. Our healthcare system is trapped in a fee-for-service model that has barely evolved in the last 50 years. We believe that innovative use of people, process and technology, as well as new thinking about business models allows us to provide care when and where patients need it.

We’re excited about this opportunity and we hope you’ll join us on this journey! Does 12-Step Work? Why I Still Go to AA Meetings

I am 13 years sober. But when I talk to people starting their recovery journey, they’re often surprised that I still attend 12-step meetings. “See! If you still HAVE to go to meetings, it doesn’t work!” they insist. To which I respond, “I CHOOSE to attend meetings BECAUSE it works.” AA has helped millions of people get...

I hit rock bottom 8 years into my recovery. Find out why.

e external things that defined me had disappeared into thin air. Feeling insignificant, invisible, and disposable, I began to sink into a deep depression. With no friends, no passion, no sense of purpose, I no longer had a reason to get out of bed. No reason to live.
